Years ago, I was the plant and production manager of one of the largest framed graphic companies in the country. Later I ran a mill in Mexicali, Mexico which produced ornate picture frame moldings. Truckloads of the stuff were sent across the border every week. Having been exposed to the processes and machinery involved with factory-produced art, I realized I would have to approach custom framing from a different perspective.

To become a custom framer I went to school for picture framing. I have been framing on a professional level for over a decade now. I have framed everything from citations and medals, needlepoint works, bark images (what the heck is that?), all sorts of prints, photographs, collages… …etc. I’ll say that I’ve seen some pretty neat stuff in that time. A few duds too. But anything goes!

As the digital age became affordable (in the mid-nineties) I bought my first film scanner and digitally archived all the 35mm negatives and slides I had accumulated over the years. Then came my first digital camera. Then photo editing software, and image editing, repair and restoration. I was amazed how faded and damaged photographs could be digitally restored. I use that same software to subtly enhance my own photography. And so: the Digital Darkroom.

The original concept for New Vista Graphics was to create a picture framing studio for my own images and for others too. Also I wanted to offer my photo editing skills to help people restore damaged photographs and create custom images from their collections. Now I have accomplished those goals and have had success in selling my photographs and images to the public. I am gratified by its acceptance. If you enjoy my photography, I’m flattered and will continue to do my best to find good subjects for you.

Gratefully,

Tom Greig
